Back problems
My back has been out of whack all week which made it hard to sit in the chair very much and I spent most of my naptimes sitting on the massager just trying to get the strength and be pain free enough to make it through the afternoon. It's quite a bit better today so hopefully it's on the mend. Don't know what has been up with it, but it happens to me every once in a while. I've just learned to take muscle relaxers at night and spend lots of time on the massager to survive.LOL

Aldi produce specials: February 22nd-28th
There are some good deals on produce at Aldi this week. Some of them you can price match at Wal-Mart if you prefer:
Little Salad Bar Italian or Caesar salad: 89 cents (this is a great price, these bags are normally about $2 each)
3 pack multi-colored peppers: $1.49
8 oz package mushrooms: 59 cents
1# broccoli crowns: 99 cents
Roma tomatoes: 49 cents a package
Yellow onions: 49 cents for a 3 pound package (although I'm wondering if this might be a typo?)

It pays to be persistent
Back in November, I signed up for the Save-a-Lot shopper club and got a $5 off $25 coupon. In order to get more coupons, you could refer friends and if they signed up, you got another coupon. So I referred 5 friends. Of those 5 friends, only one actually got the e-mail and signed up. None of the others ever got the e-mail. If they had got the e-mail and not wanted to do it, that was fine, but they never even got the e-mail. I waited a few days and went in and tried to enter the e-mail addresses again but it wouldn't let me since I had already referred 5. So I tried contacting Save-a-Lot through their website about the issue. No response. I waited a while and tried again, two more times. No response. Finally, last week, I decided to try one more time. I was polite and kind all through this. Which was hard for me because I was getting very annoyed. LOL. Anyway... So I went to the website and e-mailed AGAIN. I also went and looked at their Facebook page and noticed that people that posted questions, comments, etc. on there were getting pretty quick responses. So I posted there that I was having a problem and hadn't got a response from e-mailing through their website. Well, a representative replied and gave me his e-mail address. I e-mailed him what was going on. And suddenly, I also had a response from my e-mail through their website too. LOL. Anyway, they sent me two $5 gift certificates to use. And referred me to the company that does the coupons through the website. Last night, they sent me a coupon for $5 off $25 which they said I could print 5 times. Only catch? It expires in a week. So I doubt I get to use all of them. LOL. And it's in my name so I can't even share. :( But that's okay, I'm just grateful for how they finally handled it.

Book review: Dig out of Debt
I finished reading Digging out of Debt, sent to me by the Living on a Dime website.
As with everything I've read from these ladies, I highly recommend this book! It has ideas and articles for everything from saving money on holidays to information on working from home to cleaning and organizing ideas! If you like to read, you can see if your local library has the book or order it from their web store.
One of the things I really liked about this book is that it got me to thinking about all the "little" ways we waste money that can really add up. An obvious ways is eating out, a not so obvious way might be the diet sodas that we buy. It doesn't seem like much, but it can really add up. Especially if you add in the Sonic drinks that we have a tendency to love so much!
The section on holidays is super. It has specific ideas for Valentine's, Easter, Christmas, and Halloween. I think the best thing is that as you read each section, your mind will start thinking of ways to do things for almost any holiday. And I think it is more about the memories that you create with your children than the amount of money you spend. The Halloween that I remember best is the year that we didn't have any money for costumes so the kids had to find ways to use what we already had. I think their costumes that year were their best (wish I could find a picture of them).
As Tom and I continue our struggle and our journey, it's encouraging and inspiring to read ideas from real people who have been there and have come out on the other side.

This weekend's bargains
Didn't have any luck at the thrift stores on Saturday, but got a few grocery bargains. I got Hamburger and Chicken Helper at Save-a-Lot for 75 cents a box after coupon. I also got some General Mills Cereal for $1.67 a box after coupon and some Pillsbury Grands biscuits for 85 cents after coupons. Then I went to United and used my rain checks to get some Totino's Pizza rolls for $1 a box, plus I had 40 cents off two coupons, making them 80 cents a box. Also got some Best Choice ice cream with the 50 cents off coupons on the back of the rain checks.
One of the best things about all of that? They were almost all General Mills products which means I'll have Box Tops to cut off and save for the school!

Product Review: Lipton Superfruit Green Tea
I will be the first to admit, I was one of those people who used to turn their nose up at green tea. Why? Well, I mean, it's GREEN!!!! LOL. But after reading about the positive benefits of it, I decided to try it a while back. And found out that I really like it. It is alot like regular tea, although not quite as strong, in my opinion.
Anyway, I got some samples of this Lipton Superfruit Green Tea to try. It has blueberry and purple acai flavor. Do I have any idea what acai is? No, but the tea was really good. LOL. I drank it hot with a little bit of Splenda and really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to drinking the other packets and will probably look for this to buy it (assuming I can find a good deal of course, LOL).

I'm looking forward to drinking the other packets and will probably look for this to buy it (assuming I can find a good deal of course, LOL).

Product Review: Crystal Light Energy drink
Yesterday I got a free sample in the mail of a new Crystal Light Energy drink. It has caffeine and B vitamins added to it. The flavor I got was citrus and it was one of those little packets that you add to a bottle of water. I just poured a glass of water and added it to that. It was REALLY good! I loved the flavor. As for the "energy" aspects, I'm not sure. LOL. It's hard to really tell from drinking it one time. I was really sleepy this morning and it did seem to perk me up, so maybe? At any rate, I got a coupon along with it and I will probably try it again if I find a good deal on it.

Discovery Bottles
Inspired by a pin from Mandy at Work at Home Adventures and Mandy's Fun with Pinterest, I made these discovery bottles this week. I had saved some 20 oz Diet Dr. Pepper bottles that I got and was planning to do something with them, but hadn't been motivated yet. LOL.
From left to right:
Color mix bottle: water with blue food coloring, oil with yellow food coloring. When you shake them up, it turns green, then separates again.
Snowstorm bottle: water and glitter. Shake it up and it looks like a snowstorm. Then the glitter settles down again and you can do it over and over.
Magnetic bottles: first one is cut up pipe cleaners. Take a magnet wand (or any magnet) and move the pipe cleaners around. Second one (which you can't see very well) has colored paper clips and water in it. Use a magnet to move the paper clips around.
Soapy water: water and dish soap (you can also add food coloring). Shake to make bubbles.
Search and find bottle: this one has all different little hearts in it and rice. Turn the bottle around and around to find the hearts. To make it more challenging, you could have a checklist for older kids to check off as they find each item.

Product Review: Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Shampoo
A few weeks ago, I signed up for and got a free sample of Herbal Essence shampoo. I've been using it some to see how I like it. I LOVE the smell of it, it smells kind of coconutty. I also feel like it does a really good job of cleaning my hair. I only wish they'd sent some conditioner along with it. Since my hair is going gray, it needs conditioning more than ever. If I don't use another conditioner afterwards, my hair is kinda crazy that day. That's kind of a bummer because then my hair doesn't smell like the Herbal Essence shampoo anymore. LOL. Bottom line, even though I like it okay, I probably won't go out and buy this product.
Swagbucks: Are you tired of me yet?
Are you guys tired of hearing me go on about Swagbucks yet? LOL. I hope not, because I'm loving it! I'm getting close to being able to get another couple of Amazon gift cards, mostly from doing searches through Swagbucks, from referral bucks, and some from watching videos. Truth be told, I usually just start the video and get up and go do something else, unless it's something I"m really interested in, I don't usually watch them.
Remember, if you haven't signed up yet and you're interested in signing up, just send me an e-mail to Tracy.Hinton@gmail.com and I'll send you a referral link!

Homemade Maracas
Today I used an empty ketchup bottle, some Discount School Supply Bio-Color paint, and Mod Podge to make a maraca. I taped the lid on with blue duct tape. Now granted, my painting job won't win any awards (LOL), but I don't think it turned out bad. I'm not sure if plain tempera paint would work, but acrylic paint would. I painted it, let the paint dry, then covered it with Mod Podge to seal it. After it dried, I put some rice inside (you could use anything: beans, pennies, etc.), put the lid on, and taped it shut.
